President Signs Bill Continuing Spending through November 17, 2006
September 29, 2006
President signs into law Defense Appropriations
bill providing for continued spending authority for the federal
government through November 17, 2006.
As part of its "rush-to-recess" chaos, Congress included a Continuing
Resolution as part of the Defense Appropriation bill to keep the
government running until after the election on November 17, 2007. The
measure will maintain LIHEAP at its FY06 funding level of $1.98 billion.
The supplemental $500 million in block grant and $500 million in
contingency funds were not included as part of the Continuing
Resolution.
Note: This does not mean that the final appropriation will be in the
$2 billion range. Rather it will give us additional time to work to
restore funding to at least the FY 2006 level.
The attached table provides state-by-state numbers comparing FY 2006
appropriations to FY 2007 as contained in the House and Senate
Appropriations bills.
